Through The Years

Our Church History

LightHouse Church was founded in 1971 under its original name, Gloucester Assembly of God. In 1975, a one-acre tract was purchased on Route 17, six miles north of the York River Bridge, and the church family worshipped in a double-wide trailer that was placed on the property.

In 1981 a new sanctuary was built by the men of the church and was dedicated to the Lord. In 1984 the gym and education building was erected, and in 1985 twenty-one additional acres were purchased.

In 1988 the church’s name was officially changed to Lighthouse Worship Center and in September of 1989 the new sanctuary was dedicated to the Glory of God. Pastor Ken & Holly Cramer became the senior pastors in 1998 after serving as the Children’s Pastors for seven years. In 2016, Lighthouse Worship Center rebranded and is now LightHouse Church.

The real history of the church is its people and families. LightHouse Church is a church dedicated to worshiping God, loving people of all faiths and races, empowering families to meet their full potential in Christ and to equip leaders to minister and guide others in the faith.

Our Values

Jesus-Centered

Missional

Compassionate Leadership

Faith in Action

Family-Focused

At the core of our church in Gloucester is a simple yet life-giving journey: Know Jesus, Find Your Place, Tell Your Story, Change the World. Whether you're a young adult seeking guidance, a young family balancing life and faith, or a seasoned individual sharing wisdom, we’re here to help you follow Jesus, discover your unique gifts, and share your story of how God is working in your life. Together, we’ll serve our community and beyond. Come as you are. Grow in relationship, connect with caring people, and help us make a real difference, both locally and globally.

Our Beliefs

Knowing Jesus is at the heart of everything we do. It’s more than information, it’s a life-changing relationship with the One who loves you, understands your struggles, and invites you into abundant life. Here, you’ll find space to ask honest questions, explore the Bible, and experience prayer and worship that help faith move from head knowledge to heart truth.

For young adults, knowing Jesus means discovering your identity and purpose during life's big transitions. We offer real conversations, small groups, and service opportunities where faith is practiced, not just talked about. Bring your doubts, curiosity, and hunger for something real, you’ll find peers and mentors walking the same path.

For young families, knowing Jesus is about building spiritual rhythms at home and finding support as you raise kids in faith. Our family-focused classes, kids’ ministries, and parent resources help you connect worship with everyday life, simple practices, meaningful moments, and a community that lifts one another through the chaos of parenting.

For the legacy generation, knowing Jesus is an opportunity to deepen devotion and pass on spiritual wisdom to younger generations. We welcome your stories, prayers, and leadership through small group studies, mentoring relationships, and focused ministries that value the experience and faith you bring.

If you’re ready to take a next step, join a study, come to a newcomer dinner, or talk with a pastor—we’d love to walk alongside you. Knowing Jesus happens best together, and there’s a place for you here.

Finding your place is about discovering how your gifts, passions, and season of life fit into the life of the church. We want you to belong, serve, and grow. Whether you are exploring first steps or ready to lead, there are clear pathways and people eager to help you connect and get involved.

For young adults, finding your place means joining communities where friendships form and faith is practiced. Small groups, service teams, creative ministries, and mission projects provide space to try new things, lead when you’re ready, and build authentic relationships with peers navigating similar life stages.

For young families, finding your place means practical ways to serve together and connect with others facing the same joys and challenges. Family-friendly ministries, volunteer teams that welcome kids, parenting classes, and regular community events help you weave faith into everyday life while receiving support from others on the same journey.

For the legacy generation, finding your place is an opportunity to invest your experience and faith by mentoring, teaching, praying, and serving in leadership or support roles. Your stories, wisdom, and steady presence strengthen younger leaders and deepen our community.

Ready to take the next step? Join a volunteer team, try a small group, attend our Discover Lighthouse class, or talk with a team member. We’ll help you find a place where you belong and where your gifts can make a real difference.

Telling your story is how faith becomes real for both you and others. When we share the ways God has shown up in our lives, we create space for healing, encouragement, and deeper connections. Your story matters, whether it’s messy, ordinary, or overflowing with joy. We celebrate honest voices and cultivate safe spaces where everyone can be heard and seen.

For young adults, telling your story helps clarify who you are and what you believe as you navigate work, relationships, and calling. This can happen in small groups, creative projects, service reflections, or casual conversations where authenticity is valued over perfection. Sharing your journey builds friendships and gives your faith a voice wherever you live and work.

For young families, telling your story models faith for your children and strengthens other parents walking the same path. Sharing moments of hope, struggle, and everyday faith normalizes the challenges of family life and invites others to grow alongside you. Family story nights, parent groups, and short testimony moments in worship are simple ways to pass faith on to the next generation.

For the legacy generation, telling your story is a powerful gift to younger people and to the church as a whole. Your memories, lessons, and prayers shape the next chapter of our community. We invite you to mentor, record your memories, lead story-centered gatherings, or simply have coffee with someone younger to listen and share from your experience.

Want to join in? Share a testimony during a service, sign up for a story group, submit a written or recorded story, or connect with a pastor to find a place to speak and listen. Your story can encourage others and help our church grow together.

Changing the world is the natural next step after knowing Jesus and finding your place. It means putting faith into action through service, compassion, justice, and everyday kindness. We believe real change starts in our neighborhoods and stretches across the globe as we work together to meet needs, share hope, and stand with the vulnerable.

For young adults, changing the world offers opportunities to lead, innovate, and mobilize peers. Get involved in local projects, join mission teams, start a campus or workplace initiative, or bring creative solutions to long-standing challenges. Your energy, ideas, and willingness to try new things help the church reach people who might never walk through our doors.

For young families, changing the world means serving together and modeling a life of faith for your children. Family-friendly outreach opportunities, regular service days, and projects that include kids make it easy to serve without leaving your family behind. Small acts of kindness done consistently teach our children the value of compassion and build a legacy of service.

For the legacy generation, changing the world is a chance to invest your time, experience, and resources for lasting impact. Mentor leaders, lead prayer teams, support ministries financially, and lend your wisdom to long-term projects. Your steady presence and stories of faith inspire younger generations and help sustain ministries through seasons of growth and challenge.

Ready to get started? Join a volunteer team, sign up for an outreach event, attend an information session about missions, or talk with our outreach staff. Together, we can turn compassion into action and make a tangible difference in Gloucester and beyond.
